Invite to important meetings for the people of Cove & Altens

The Loirston Annexe Steering Group meetings:- These meetings have always been open to all, but after the response of the public meeting held on the 17th January, it has been decided to increase advertising and encourage all who are interested to attend.   Have your say, or just keep abreast of where we are.  The main focus of the next meeting planned for Wednesday 1st February will be to form a list of the tasks that will need doing – a list of volunteering opportunities if you like.

Special meeting on 15th Feb:- Again, following on from the good response on the meeting of the 17th January, this meeting is inviting all volunteers who wish to take on the opportunity of being a Management Committee member.

This meeting will set the date of the next meeting to appoint the office bearers from a maximum of 15 volunteers that ideally form a cross section of the community / users of the centre.

Brian Allan (Steering Group chair)

Doonies Farm

Doonies Farm website - www.dooniesfarmaberdeen.co.uk

Doonies Farm sits on the cliff tops between Aberdeen Lighthouse and the village of Cove. The farm is home to some of Britain’s rarest breeds of cattle, sheep, horses, pigs, goats and poultry. It is a working farm that is managed using mainly traditional farming methods to encourage local wildlife to flourish too.

For generations of children, Doonies has been their first contact with the countryside.

Nether Loirston Growers News

The Nether Loirston Growers website can be found at www.nlga.info

The Growers are looking forward to the coming growing season with anticipation. We have started to check our seeds and planning what we can produce this year.

A polytunnel is to be erected on our site to extend the growing season for the allotmenteers and to provide space for talks and hands-on workshops over the summer months.
If you no longer use your compost bin, perhaps due to the brown bin scheme, then please consider donating it to the allotments. We can uplift it from you.

We may have space for more growers this year and if you live in Cove and Altens and are interested in having an allotment, would like to come along to a workshop or can donate a compost bin, please get in touch with

Marlene, Chair, 896769 or Michele, Secretary, 890329 or email nlga@hotmail.co.uk

We have established allotments for Cove and District residents, thanks to £37,750 from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund.  Full details here.

NESCAMP North Esplanade West Enforcement

Motorists seem oblivious to new signage which not only highlights that speed enforcement may take place but also confirms the limit is 30mph on North Esplanade West.

The signs which form part of NESCAMPs 'A956 Ellon roundabout to Cove roundabout' Route, feature a 'Box Brownie' camera sign and a 30mph speed limit sign, set on a blue background and have been in position since July.

However during September over the course of four visits and six hours of speed enforcement 120 motorists were detected.
Julie Smith, Communications Officer from NESCAMP said 'to detect an average of over 20 offences per hour at any site is very, very disappointing.

The new signage highlights that the speed limit is 30mph yet motorists continue to drive in excess of that limit.
I would like to stress that dual carriageways within the city do not automatically have a 40mph speed limit. In fact there are over ten such roads in Aberdeen which are subject to a 30mph limit.

Motorists must remember that the speed limit is there for the safety of all road users'.

NESCAMP is a partnership comprising Grampian Police, Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, the Moray Council and Transport Scotland. The Partnership exists with the aim of reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured on North East Roads.

Your Chronicle Needs You!

You may have noticed that your Cove Chronicle has grown over the years due to our ever expanding community and our readership has greatly increased from our early days.

The Chronicle has and continues to be a true and real community effort with everyone involved giving of their time on a voluntary basis to help in getting the wide ranging local information to you every two months.  This involves many tasks and duties which include:

• Making contact with people and gathering information for articles and advertising
• Putting the Chronicle together into the newsletter format and style we have adopted and developed over the years
• Keeping our finances in order
• Organising distribution throughout our Community

We are currently looking for people to join our band of volunteers and if you can offer to help with any of these tasks, please get in touch.  If you would like to find out more before committing to anything, we would be happy to have an informal chat with you.

Please email chronicle@cove-bay.com
